Yemen: Another War!??!??
As 2009 comes to a close, I think one of the biggest stories now is Yemen. Yemen has been under the radar screen for quite some time. There was the USS Cole incident and the fact that the Northern and Southern Part of the Country have been at it for quite some time.
The povertry, depravation and the nature of the government led by the current President has led to a state of near collapse in my view. I was shocked when I reviewed the reports of Saudi intervention in Yemen. What is clear is that Yemen is the next front on the War upon extermists. As the discussions rightly points, I struggle with how to stamp out and eradicate the cancer of Al Qaeda from our world:
Although I realize that the Obama Adminstration understands the national security implications of the potential unraveling of Yemen, opening a new front in Yemen will pose challenges as the Country continues to deal with two wars. The Yemen connection is troublesome in light of the guy who tried to blow up the plane during Christmas Day. It shows that Al Qaeda's murderous reach continues to be ever more. This "secret" war is ever more as the lethal battles continue on. The tragedy in Karachi, Pakistan is just one of the many examples. One has to leave it up to Hollywood sometimes to foretell events. The film "Rules of Engagement" foresaw what America is dealing with now in Yemen:
Will America be able to do it right in Yemen or will the stability of Saudi Arabia, Oman and the rest of the Gulf Coopoeration Council be brought into question? This is the challenge for that part of the world as we begin 2010 and the second decade of the 21st Century.
