When Will the Media See Reality & Do Its' Job?
As the world continues to grabble with a near economic meltdown, two major wars, insurrection, povetry and disaese, The U.S. Media's fascination with celebrities marches on. Larry King had Jon Gosselin, the Jon of Jon and Kate on wanting to have a seize and desist order against TLC to stop the show now that he was kicked out of the house. He, through his lawyer, claimed that the atmopshere was not good for his kids. Where was he when all the money was coming in and everything was great before he started his affairs? Then, there was the business with David Letterman. He had affairs with his staff and someone threatened to expose it. As I assessed the public relations campaign by these two celebrities, I marveled at how stupid they have all been. I have no other word to call it.
All three were idiotic fools and will end up paying dearly for their mistakes. I suppose the fascination with celebrities is something that sells and is fun. But, the bigger issue is the responsiblity of the media, though. What is sad is how the Media has continued to contribute to dumming down of America. It has done a great job insuring that America continues to lose its' grip on reality. A number of folks have jumped on this so called "I want my country" back wagon and are making a lot of money doing it. Mr. Beck is one of them.
I think Lindsay Graham, the US Senator from South Carolina, has to be congratulated for having the courage to remind the world that Glenn Beck is making a lot of money crying on Television. But for every courageous Republican, there is one who professes to admire such people. I caught a glimpse of Republican Supremo Mary Matlin on CNN's AC360 professing to love and admire Rush. If one identifies with someone who wants the President of the United States to fail, celebrates when the United States loses and lies and misleads, then you want America to fail.
In his show, Beck noted that Lindsay Graham's criticism is like a badge of honor. I suppose Mr. Beck and Mrs. Palin may eventually form a third front to take their "true Conservatives" with them. I am sure that Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes will be the enablers. They have so far helped to enable the Tea Parties, the 9-12's and other so-called grass roots movements. They have also done a great job on ACORN, but have failed to hold other contractors feet to the fire (like KBR and the rest of the military-industrial complex) for gouging taxpayers.
The implosion of the media continues to be fun to watch. It falls upon those of us who are adherents to new media who want to assess what is going on and hopefully provide a way forward to be responsible enough not to be swayed by such distractions. This is a solemn responsbility that should not be taken lightly.
