Reverend Jesse Jackson Will Always Be Looked Upon as a Champion of Civil Rights

Recently during an interview with the devil, excuse me FOX news, Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr. was quoted saying derogatory words in regards to Senator Barack Obama, essential stating he could turn off African American voters by his harsh judgments of them. Jesse Jackson certainly is entitled to his opinion. I have the utmost respect for Reverend Jackson. For years, he has been a champion of civil right and voice for the poor. I also believe like many of his generation there is a certain detachment to certain progresses made within the black community. I do not believe the message is outdated; it simply needs to be fine tuned for today’s generation. African Americans can go to any school, any restaurant, sit anywhere on any form of transportation they chose to access. Can they get a cab in Manhattan? Can they afford to live in the neighborhood with the best school?

I believe that his sensitivities along with many African American men his age are intense based upon his experiences. We are talking about a man who was there when Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.

My opinion is Jesse Jackson was speaking more out of concern than angst. He is a supporter of Barack Obama. Having an African American President is something that he probably believed would not happen in his lifetime. If he believes that an action would cause him to alienate that black vote, he has every right to be concerned. The obscenity is a completely different subject. Reverend Jackson is a minister and I am sure he regrets the nasty words he used on television. The bottom line is this: not a big deal folks.
