Thugocracy: A New Way of Governing!??!
The pharse thugoracy that David Petraus used when explaining what is going on in Iran right now. That's also the case in Venezuela as well. I think that Petraus should actually consider getting a copyright on this phrase especially in light of how true this in and how many countries are afflicted with this disease!!!
I regard Venezuela's Hugo Chavez as a clown and yet quite smart and cunning. He has been using his fight against the "Empire" to consolidate his so-called Boliviran Revolution. I have been fascinated by him and his rise. I have continued to be encouraged by his promise in wanting to fashion an indepedent path to elevate his nation beyond the cycle of povertry and depravation it had been in. I have sometimes written about him rather eccentric acts though here and in SP's sister sites, Outsider Views and Kitten Politics. However, it seems as if power has gotten to his head!!!
In yesterday's edition of the New York Times, there was a report about the purges Chavez has undertaken. He has gone after the so-called Boligrachs who amassed fortunes due to their association with Chavez. This is as he has presided over an economic collapse. High inflation, unemployment, shortage of electricity, corruption and a crime spree has caused him to be ever more paranoid. I have been especially distrubed by his moves against the Media and his continued grab of private property. His path is exactly the path that Iran has taken which continues to be of profound concern as well. When will it end?
