The World's Oldest Pupil: A Brief Tribute
Kimani Nganga Maruge was the world's oldest pupil. He died this past week at the age of 90 in Kenya.
At first glance, one may wonder why he mattered. Because, in my view, he did. I was inspired by his story because of what he did. He went back to primary school at the age of 84. I was so taken by his committment that I wanted to find out more about him. When I googled, "Kenya's Oldest Pupil", Google came back with over 230,000 hits. He is a guy who outlived 10 of his fifteen children and was the example for all to realize that it is never, ever too late.
He fought for his rights and during the twlight of his life, stepped up to improve his life It is quite a legacy indeed. He did not just try--he succeeded. May the Lord bless his soul and may he be the inspiration to all who somehow feel discouraged to really realize that anything is really possible.
