The Tragic Drama in the Maldives
I have been assessing the situation the Maldives since the newsflash yesterday. The situation apparently is becoming quite grim.
As I write this, there are reports that an arrest warrant has been issued for Mohammad Nasheed. His family is reportedly in Sri Lanka. Nasheed has claimed that he was deposed in a coup and his removal has resulted in people rioting in the streets. Supposedly this was triggered by the arrest of a Senior Judge.
What is tragic is that the Maldives cannot afford to have such instability as it deals with the aftermath of Global Warming. The only thing the Country has going for it is Tourism. It needs unity and reconcilation immediately. Why is this happening to such a beautiful country?
