The Red Terror In India
As one of the BRIC nations, India is turning to be the envy of the world. However, as India continues to grow and prosper, the gap between the rich and the poor continues to be ever more. What I found very disturbing was how Maoists are active in one third of India's 626 districts. According to the same report, some 90 of the districts are seeing what the Economist calls "consistent" violence.
Maoists are known as Naxalites and are scattered throughout the poorest of the poor in India. From the brief research I have done, I sense that they have some profound grievenances that the Union Government must address in order to overcome it. The Prime Minister of India has called it the greatest menance being faced by India today. If he believs it to so, he has to take steps to overcome it. The rising of prosperity must be shared by all. The Government of India must prove that it is up to the challenge. So far, it seems not to understand it.
