The Never-Ending Challenges Around Us
The landmines over the economic recovery are very much in evidence. The Economists' KAL depicted it as well as it could. There does appear to be some "green shots". The cash for clunkers seems to have worked in a big way. The stimulus is starting to work its' way, albeit slowly. The Republicans are putting up a valiant fight, though.
Although the Economy seems to have stopped its freefall, there is still the challenge of healthcare reform. It appears that the Republicans and their supporters in the Insurance and Pharma industries are determined to stop it. I wrote about it and reported on Keith Olberman's commentary in SP's sister site, Kitten politics. The clip is noted below:

Not withstanding the dramatics by Mr. Olbermann, the simple fact is that the healthcare system in America is broken. I have written about the courage needed to fix it. From what I see so far, the courage is simply not there. I pray that I am wrong.
As the economimc challenges continue to be ever more around us, there is of course the political challenges. The Palestinians continue to be subject to harsh conditions under Israeli occupation. A Palestinian family was evicted from their home in East Jersuleam in the middle of the night because an Israeli claimed to have title to the property, even though the family had a deed that was given to them by the UN and the Government of Jordan. It showed how Israel is a law onto itself and acts with complete impunity. Now, FATAH is holding its' conference in Ramallah and Mahmoud Abbas is speaking to remember where FATAH has been and where it is going.
What will happen to the Palestinians? What is their future? No one seems to know the answer.
