The Evolving Struggle Over New Media (An Update)
I have been following with great interest the continued evolution of New Media. As a New Media practitioner, I view the rise of New and Alternate Media as one of the liberating factors that prompts all to question the status quo and Provide the platform necessary for growth and opportunity that would otherwise not be possible.
As I see the evolving nature of new media, I am amused as to how the titans are fighting it out. Microsoft and Google are truly at it in a big way. Microsoft has been doing it by virtually giving cash away to have folks deindex away from Google. I have just see word that they are working w/News Corp to have News Corp deindex its' Stuff from Microsoft and list it on Microsoft's Bing. Although Bing seems to be making some inroads, I wonder if Bing would also end up as of the top 10 turkey moves of the year.
As News Corp is making noise about pulling away from Google, others are also seem to be following suite. There is an apaprent determination by the publishers of the Denver Post and the Dallas Morning News to pull some of the stories from Google as well. I wonder if Mr. Murdoch has started to open the floodgates. But, what they are failing to realize is that the people will be sceptical and will continue to seek out alternatives and I do wonder if they would be willing to pay for content as it is currently envisioned.
What I find absolutely certain is that the true story on New Media is truly yet to be written.
