The Catholic Church: Why?
As someone who attended Catholic Schools, I have been troubled by the reports of Priests abusing Children. Earlier on Thursday, I listened in on a interview with a Professional who had treated over 300 priests. I have to question why the Catholic Church did not wake up and understand the damage it has done.
What the Catholic Church has to understand is that the institution has been damaged in a major way. When church attendance in Europe continues to fall, there needs to be a realization of the immense crisis in confidence that the Church faces today. I regard this as a crisis of faith throughout the world. I believe that the Church will overcome it because it is one of the most compassionate and caring organizations around. But, it will take some time to work through this. It will require people to rekindle their faith and believe. It will require courage. It starts with each and everyone of us. The Pope's homily is a start.
