THe Capture of The Taliban's Mullah Baradar
There are reports of the capture of Mullah Baradar. Mullah Baradar i s reportedly Mullah Omar's Number 2. Mullah Omar is the Afghan Taliban Spiritual Leader who is reportedly in Pakistan. The issue is not that he was captured--it is where he was captured.
The reports I just reviewed note that he was captured in Karachi. Karachi is on the Southern tip of Pakistan--far away from the border. Although the capture is good news, the question that has to be asked is this: How come he made it all the way down to Karachi? Who was supporting him? Who was he talking to? Does this not mean that Pakistan's control over its' own territory is precarious at best?
Beyond the capture of Mullah Baradar, there is of course Operation Muskharakt. Musharakat means working together. Apparently there is headway being made in capturing the Taliban stronghold. However, Taliban resistance is continuing. Although NATO will ultimately prevail, the issue is at what cost. Furthermore, the blood and treasure being spent to prop up the useless Karzai is ever so bothersome. How the world will get out of this trap remains to be seen.
