SP Week-End Notes: A Roundup of the US Sunday Talk-Shows
I have been making the "rounds" of the Key U.S. Media Sunday Talk Shows. The three networks saw Rahm Emmanual, David Axelord and Valerie Jarred, three of President Obama's top advisors trying to explain the progress of the Adminstration and what is going on.
Mr. Axelord went after Fox News. I think that his comments were right on because Fox News is not a News Organization. They should rename themselves the Fox Commentary Network. They have a right to say what they have to say and they ought to accept that. But, what is going with NBC Universal right now is a symptom of the greater malaise in the media sector--not withstanding what Fox does or not.
One of the many questions thrown to the guests was the issue of Healthcare, Afghanistan and Pakistan. I found Jon Kyl's discussion amusing about the "great ideas" the Republicans had on healthcare. I found his thoughts about doing things in a "targeted fashion" were to be too little, too late. I also found the concerns about the President's Afghan Strategy to be interesting. There is no Government in Afghanistan right now. Yet, the Republicans want to force a decision right now. Senator Cornyn of Texas pushed this in his appearance on Face the Nation.
As I finished the "rounds", I heard the complaints that Republicans were shut out. I found the unity of the Republican message to be commendable. The continued stark choices on the path the United States needs to take was truly shown in the debate. That's why the upcoming 2010 elections will be quite fascinating to watch.
