SP Week-End (8/28/2010): The Future of the BBC
I admit I am a fan of the BBC. I have been a fan because of its' focus on Culture, History and Education. I see that under threat as the License Fees Negotiatons begin next year.
Mark Thompson, the BBC Director General, recently spoke about the dangers faced by the BBC. Although I understand that the services of the World Services are separately funded by the British Government and not thru license fees, it still seems to me that the British Government should protect such a brand that is synomous with Britain. Many British institutions have been taken over. It seems to me that the land of Shakespeare and Byron should insure that the essence of culture will work to sustain itself. The only thing I hope is that the British Government will not fall into the trap that has been set out by James Murdoch. I have to wonder how much is enough for the Murdoch Family
