SP Week-End (2/28/2010): A Quick Wrap of the US Sunday Public Affair Shows
Throughout Sunday, key players in the US Political scene were on the Sunday talk Shows pushing their points of view. ABC featured the Speaker of the US House, Nancy Pelosi and a key Senator, Lamar Alexander. NBC featured John McCain and CBS had a number of leading personalities as well. Fox had some key personalities as well.
As I "virtually" attended the sessions, I noted the grand canyon that continues to exist between the parties. As I wrote on the Healthcare summitt in SP's Sister Site, Outsider Views, the Grand Canyon that exists is unlikely to be overcome. The Republicans pushed their view that things should be scrapped and started over. I especially found John McCain's insistence on starting over to be especially interesting. He has got a primary challenge on his hands and will do what he has to do to survive the challenge. His opponent, J.D. Hayworth (of the Abramoff Claim), is already on the record noting that the road taken by the Democrats means Socialism.
As a new month begins, I wonder what will happen. I wonder whether the plight of main street will be truly listened to. What I heard everyone agree on is that the current road is the road to no where. If that is something to build consesus on remains to be seen. I am not optimistic at all.
