SP Week-End (2/14/2010): The Release of Burma's Tin Oo
Burma's Tin Oo has been released. I welcome this release because it appears that the thugs in charge of Burma are trying to figure out a way to ease themselves out of the Poltiical mess they have put themselves into. But as long as the Chinese and the Thais continue to back them, they will continue to move with relative impunity. One must also not forget the Russians. The Burmese just went on an arms buying binge. I have to wonder who are they trying to protect themselves against. I will leave that for another day.
In spite of such developments, I continue to remain hopeful about Burma. There is even talk that Aung San Suu Kyi may be released once her current period of house arrest ends. I will believe it when I see it. What is unfortunate is that both Tin Oo and Aung San Suu Kyi have been under house arrest off and on for the past 15 years. Such brave souls serve as an inspiration to us all who believe in Democracy and Human Rights. The responsbility for each and everyone of us to protect those very rights and speak up for injustice becomes ever more as our "spaceship earth" changes before our very eyes. The challenges are profound to be ignored. Hopefully the Burmese Generals understand that.
