SP Week-End (1/30/2011): Always Hopeful
Understanding Egypt and the "day after" is something that continues to be of profound interest to all around the world. What happens aftewards has profound implications and I have been writing about it in SP's sister site, Outsider Views. But, contrary to all the "doomsayers", I think that the region's best days are ahead of it simply because the people have woken up.
I am always fascinated by how people on Main Street continue on as the leaders try to play the "game". One such man I ran across is Yuval Roth. He is an Israeli whose Brother was killled by Hamas. He felt that he had to do something differently. He created an organization to help drive Palestinians to get Medical Care in Isreal. His organization has some 200 volunteers that currently does such work. This is, of course, as the Government of Israel continues to build settlements, Libereman pushes his facist agenda and the Palestinians continue to be left out in the cold.
Yuval Roth represents the best of Israel, the best of the Jewish tradition and the best of humanity. May our World be continue to be blessed with such angels who go through and do such selfless acts that live up to Dr. King's admonition never to succumb to the temptation of bitterness.
