SP View: Will the Real Israel Stand Up?

I am a fan of Israel because I am fascinated by how Israel has been able to achieve as much as it has in Medicine, in Agriculture and in Technology. I regularly visit Israel21 to see the latest going on in Israel. I also regularly take a look at what J Street, the new alternative to AIPAC, is doing and am a supporter of the Peace Now movement. But, I continue to be profoundly worried by Israel's erratic political behavior.

Israel's political system is dysfunctional. I have no other word to describe it. During the election, I wrote about my hope that the current Prime Minister would be courageous enough to do the right thing. But, I have been disappointed especially in light of the continued land grabs in the West Bank, attacks on Muslim holy sites and of course, Gaza.

Despite the silence of the US Media, there are those around the world that continue to insure that the truth is told. There are also the courageous ones, like John Holmes that called Gaza for what it is: an Open-Air Prison

I am trying to figure out why Israel is not letting construction material into Gaza to get homes rebuilt and schools re-opened. I am trying to understand why kids are not given books. Israel would not be successful in this unless it has tacit support. Egypt has been on board and has continued to block access to Gaza as well. Egypt has also been supposedly tried to be an honest broker because of the work it has tried to do to reconcile the Palestinian factions. This just does not make sense. But, at least John Holmes noted this for what it is.

Now, there is of course the Dubai assassination of a Hamas commander. I hope that Dubai's Police Chief will actually go through with his threat to issue arrest warrants against The Israeli Prime Minister and the Head of the Mossad. I wonder if it will happen though.

I await the real Israel to stand up to live up to the principle of true equality and justice for all.
