SP Newswatch (2/15/2011): Bahrain Right Now
I have been monitoring reports out of Bahrain. As I write this, Al Jazeera had an interview with one of the members of Bahrain's Human Rights Society. It was interesting to note how that Bahraini conveyed the concern of those on the street not giving the same coverage to what was going on in Bahrain and somehow gave more credence to Egypt. I was laughing because it showed that AL Jazeera was doing its' job.
As I wrote earlier in SP's sister site, Outsider Views, Bahrain should be of profound concern to the United States. The people are concerned and rightly so. I don't think that the protests will move on to the Emirates, Qatar or even Saudi Arabia because they are in a much better position. Qatar's Emir is the one who had the vision to back Al Jazeera and has put Al Jazeera on the map. But, it is just fascinating to see how things have changed--and yes how Al Jazeera has played a role notwithstanding whatever the United States Government thinks about it.
