SP Newsflash II (3/3/2011): AfPak Here and Now...
As the Revolutions sweep the Arab World, the struggle for Afghanistan and Pakistan continues on without any respite.
As I write this, Al Jazeera is reporting on the death of children during a raid in Kunar. All the kids were under 14. It prompted a personal apology from David Petraus and a promise to rebrief the soldiers. The problem, though, is that the underlying fundementals are not being addressed simply because the Afghan Government is basically useless. Yet, that's something that is not being talked about at all.
Beyond Afghanistan, there is Pakistan. The Pakistan Minorities Minister, a Christian, was assassinated. He had no security as he was on his way to work. He was someone who had spoken out against Pakistan's Blasphamy laws. Yet, he paid a heavy price for wanting to do what was right. What will happen now?
