Mullah Omar, the Taliban leader, has broken his silence!!!
As Ramadan came to a close, he sent out an Eid Message to his "faithful". He fancies himself as the Emir, leader of the faithful. In his message, he predicts victory and urges President Obama to withdraw his forces as soon as possible.
I am sure Mullah Omar realizes that President Obama is not going to go down quietly. What I also know is that Mullah Omar realizes that he is, in many ways, dead man walking. I am amazed as to why they have not been able to get him yet. It is because he is able to pretty much to do as he pleases because elements of the Pakistan ISI do indeed protect him. If Pakistan truly wanted to get him, they could.
Here is one harsh reality: Karzai's rule has ran Afghanistan to the ground. During Mullah Omar's reign, at least drugs were eradicated and there was a sense of security. But, it was a brutal reign and the philosophy that Mullah Omar espouses has no place in Modern Islam and the era we live in. Will the Taliban understand that they have to change and will they have the courage to be true partners and help to transform Afghanistan or not?
