SP Newsflash (5/10/2010): The Phillipine Elections
As I am writing this, filippions have been going to the polls to vote for President. It appears that the son of the former President, Cory Aquino, is in the running to win it all.
Phillippines remains a land torn between the rich and the poor. According to the IMF, the high 10% of the country control a staggering 34% of the Country's income. One guy, the Chairman of San Miguel, has 8 Haciendas in addition to controlling the country's largest beer maker. It made over 140 Million Euros (almost 300 Million Dollars) last year. Although I wish Senator Aquino well, it will take a miracle to overcome this widening inequality that exists. On top of that, Mrs. Arroyo will continue to loom large if she wins her seat to Congress.
Will fillippions see a better day? I wonder.
