SP News Flash (5/20/2010: The Thai Tragedy (The Day After)
The Red Shirts leaders have surrended. Thailand has paid a heavy price for what has happened. Scenes of burnt-out buildings and the stories of the brutality used is shocking. Some of Bangkok's key buildings are ruined.
The Thai Prime Minister has vowed to restore law and order. They are going to throw the book at the Red Shirt Leaders. Furthermore, there is a curfew throughout the country. I am seeing reports of continued resistance, though. What The Thai Prime Minister has to figure out is how he is going to overcome this divide.
Thaksin's role in this tragedy should be investigated. Thaksin, to me, is a corrupt opportunist who has done everything to undermine Thai Society. I have to wonder whether rural Thais realize the true nature of Thaksin's intentions. I have to wonder what is so intoxicating about power that entices people to do whatever it takes to achieve it? Will Thaksin's hold on the rural poor be finally broken free?
