South Africa: Is there Still Hope?
I have been watching Invictus. I initally saw it a few months back when it came out. The hope and uplifting message within it truly moved me. But, what I see in today's South Africa gives me pause.
South Africa is one of the richest Countries in the World. It is part of the G20 now. But, the continued gap between the rich and poor does not bode well. The people are anxious. What is going on in South Africa is not helped by Jacob Zuma's Soap Opera. He has 3 wives, 20 Children, 2 financees and lord only knows how many girl friends. All of South Africa, though, should remember this Poem..and not despair:
Invictus
OUT of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
