How Long Can McCain Play the P.O.W Card?

John McCain and His Identical Cousin

I have been hearing through out this election about Barack Obama playing the race card. In all of these accusations, no one has been able to pin point words from Barack Obama’s campaign or himself where he has blamed any past or present action on his race. Well I’ve put together a few questions where John McCain has consistently used his experience as a P.O.W to justify his actions.

1. Question: On the View, John McCain was asked why he voted against making Martin Luther King’s Birthday a National Holiday.

Answer: I was a P.O.W when Martin Luther King was assassinated and they used his death against us

2. Question: How Many Homes Do You Have?

Answer: Since they were never really honest about this one, all the McCain camp could say was “This is a man who lived in the same house for 5 years as a P.O.W

3. Shawn Hannity the clown recently spoke about John Edward’s infidelity
.
Response regarding John McCain’s infidelity: how can we trust John McCain to be President of the United States -- he cheated on by his own admission on his first wife, he didn't keep his martial vows, he didn't keep his pledge to his first family?" Hannity used the POW card by replying, "Thirty years ago after five-and-a half-years of being a POW. he recent Saddleback Church event on Saturday, August 16th.

4. Situation: People questioned why Senator McCain was not in the "cone of silence" Pastor Warren said he was in, and was instead in his motorcade, capable of listening to Obama's interview to hear the questions in advance.

Response: Nicole Wallace, a spokesperson for the McCain campaign, said, "The insinuation from the Obama campaign that John McCain, a former prisoner of war, cheated is outrageous."
John McCain faithfully served this country. I get that. Does this give him a pass for every lame thing he has done. By constantly using this excuse, he is cheapening his experience to the American people. Quite frankly it no longer flies!

Although I have been troubled by McCain's over use of his P.O.W. background to cover his shortcomings also, it is apparent that you read the VetsforObama.org website before writing this post. If this is true, did you just put their words into yours? Not plagarizing necessarily, just too unoriginal!

Personally, I have doubts about people who support Obama. The man tells us nothing and then expects everyone to fawn over him. Where is their research?
Ask his admirers why they want him to lead this great nation and they
usually cannot give a straight answer.

These are strange times indeed.

Anonymous,
I have never read vets for Obama. Even Stevie Wonder could see he is using the POW excuse for everything. Obama doesn't always give all the details in his answers because for some reasons he believes the American people read. His plan is laid out in grave detail in his book The Audacity of Hope and his website.
I want Obama to be President because he has empathy for the poor. He will appoint the next supreme court justice and I don't want that person to reverse Roe V Wade or take any back paddles when it comes to women's right. If you have asked people around you why they want him to lead this nation with out a straight answer, well, a man or woman is only as smart as the company they keep

As far as I am concerned, 6 yrs of torture = as many years of POW card as he'd like. Most can't hack a trip to the dentist, this guy was beaten, battered, and tortured for doing what we his country asked of him. I don't see him looking for hand outs on the street corners. You think he's over playing his card... go back and play his hand and see what you'd do.

I don’t believe anyone is disputing that John McCain went through Hell at the hands of his captors which he suffered greatly. The question is whether his experience as a prisoner of war is a satisfactory response to any policy question posed to him or whether being a POW is, of and by itself, a qualification for being president.

This excellent post raises these issues – exceedingly well, I might add.

Anonymous, what I would do is give people a concrete plans and reasons I should be President.
Hmmm my dad was mugged once. Maybe he should run for Mayor

Jim, you hit it on the nail. I appreciate John McCain's bravery. But even Four Star General Wesley Clark has said that his military training does not qualify him to be a President.
