Pakistan: Why it Matters
Pakistan has been in the news simply because of the fight for its' survival. I have been assessing the situation in Pakistan and have been horrified!!! The analysis done by the BBC in a report early on Wednesday noted that the Pakistani Government only controlled 38% of the Northwest Frontier Province.
Zardari, the Pakistani President, was right when he noted that the Taliban were looking for a New Order to be established. But, what he fails to address is the why and how his own actions and lack of crediblity has added fuel to the fire that is consuming Pakistan. Whether Zardari is the right fireman is the big question right now. He rejected the BBC's analysis when he was in a news conference with Gordon Brown. He can only act as the slick salesman for so long. The implications of his failure for the region and US national security interests is frightening.
