John McCain Plans to Give Himself a $400,000 Raise

McCain's Raise
Give Me That Money. At Least I'll Know What to Do With It!

It is true. While most of middle and lower income families are suffering, John McCain plans to give himself a hefty wallet boost. I apologize. He only plans to give himself a mere $373,429 under his proposed tax plan. I am perplexed on how we heard over and over again about John Edward’s $400 haircut. The media was always so quick to place a dark cloud over John Edward’s plan to end poverty in America by singing carols of John Edward’s good fortune. The same standard has not been applied to John McCain. John McCain’s plan would require huge tax cuts to public service so that he and Cindy McCain’s pocket can continue to swell. In fact, what you will not hear on television is how McCain has proposed hire tax cuts than Barack Obama, including all of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy. Apparently the media believes that it is ok for a wealthy politician to propose tax plans which benefit the wealthy, than for a wealthy politician to propose tax plans that benefit the middle class and the poor.

Last week, the Center for American Progress Action Fund released a new report by Michael Ettlinger estimating that under McCain's tax plan, he and his wife, Cindy McCain, would save $373,429. That is nearly $400,000 -- per year, not over the course of their lifetimes. (Under Barack Obama's plan, the McCain’s would save less than $6,000. The Obama's would save nearly $50,000 under McCain's plan and slightly more than $6,000 under Obama's plan own plan.) .

Shame on us America if we allow this to happen. Write CNN, MSNBC, and FOX (good luck with Fox) and ask them why they haven't brought McCain's wealth benefits to the forefront.

that's shocking.

I don't understand it - this has been happening for a long time, it seems... tax cuts for the rich. Warren Buffett even pointed out how ridiculous it is - he publicly stated that he paid a smaller percentage of tax than his secretary...

Cibbuano,

They play on fears. Most Americans don't even realize they don't make enough money to have pay more taxes under Barack Obama's plan. So the conservative right makes it look like the average man will pay more and someone who is not earning it, is going to get all of these entitlements and tax breaks. It's quite shameful.

god forbid people get to keep the money they EARN! Its shameful for sure... (hopefully my sarcasm is evident)
The reason people picked on John Edwards is the same reason anyone picks on limousine liberals. You can't claim to be for division of wealth and want everyone else to give their money to the poor and then keep yours to buy 10,000 sq ft homes and private jets. It is a matter of "whats good for the goose...isn't always what the gander wants to do." The conservatives don't claim to be for distribution of wealth (for the most part) so there is no double standard there. As far as taxes, the top 10% already pay for 2/3 of our country's taxes and the bottom 50% pay...well almost nothing- about .1%. How is that "fair" to begin with?

John Edwards is saying that its ok if he gets taxed more because he's not a selfish asshole. He is not saying that there is something wrong with being rich, however he is saying there is something wrong with being greedy. McCain is making laws to bx enefit him and his rich buddies. Don't forget the Keating 5. All of John McCain's money isn't honest money. "Everyone else" isn't giving their money to the poor, the tax lies applies to John Edwards too.

I'm admittedly a selfish heartless libertarian who thinks I deserve to keep what I earn. Of course, I would probably give it back to the charity of my choice because I want to get some public recognition for being a good person.

By the way, that pic up there is of the poor man handing the rich man's money back to him.
