Mahmoud Abbas Shows His True Colors....

More at The Real News

The Goldstone Report on the war in Gaza was due to be debated by the UN. Mahmaoud Abbas instructed the PA representatives to request a delay to debate the report. It showed how he was beholden to Israel and the United States. While this man tried to accomodate Israel, Israel continues a policy of repuidiating the United States at every turn. As Senator Mitchell launches a new mission, Israel continues its' policy of settlements, annexation of East Jersaleum thru home demolitions and finishing off a project to kill off the two state solution. I had written in SP's sister's site about a challenge I felt the Israeli Prime Minister had to be a statesman like Rabin or a fringe player like Sharon. He has decided to play the narrow political game in Israel to appease his racist Foreign Minister who has declared the peace process dead.

The Goldstone report faulted both sides. Yet, Israel decided to only be selectively critical. The fact that this vital UN report is being ignored shows that the crediblity of the UN continues to be questioned which does great disservice to all around the world who continue to regard the UN as probably the last hope. But, Israel is not Netaynhau or Lieberman. Israel is also Peace Now and Kadima too. Tipzi Livni at least was willing to realize the inevitabilty of a two-state solution. I wonder where we may have been if he had been able to win the election. I also wonder how come Olmert did not push through with his ideas. What truly held him back? We will really never know. In the meantime, it is only the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank who continue to be stuck in this test of will.

When will Israel realize the realities?
