Joseph Estrada for President!??!?
Joseph Estrada, the Phillippine President, wants to run again. He was pardoned by his successor and ex-Vice President, Gloria Arroyo. First of, I think he has a lot of nerve in even wanting to stand again. Beyond that, there is the issue of what is going on in the Phillippines itself. The Philippines must figure out how to go beyond the narrow politics of the moment and truly figure out what it wants to be. Estrada getting back into the ring will not solve the problem. It will exasburate the divisions and open up old wounds.
Although I realize that he was cleared by the legal authorities, he should withdraw to his farm and enjoy the rest of his life. He caused enough grief for his country. Does he have the courage to do it, though?
