Iran: A Continued State of Flux
In SP's sister site, Outsider Views, I commented yesterday on clashes in Iran as followers of Grand Ayatollah Montazeri attempted to hold a remembrance for him. What I found fascinating was the total lack of coverage and absolute silence by official Iranian State Organs. Whatever crediblity that the regime may have thought it had is being ebbed away every day. I wondered about what happens now. Dr. Hashemi's perspective is quite appropriate here:
What I found especially comical was the dismissal of Mousavi from one of two official public positions he has. He was dismissed as head of the National Arts Institute which is affiliated with the Iranian Presidency. Ahmadinejad flew back from a regional trip specifically to chair a meeting that led to his firing. d What he and his master, Khameini, don't seem to realize is that such actions works to enhance the position and democratic credentials of Mr. Mousavi. It was a clear political move and the nonsense professed by his replacement was laughable to say the least. Ahmadinjead is the same guy who has also apparently invited the son of the Former Shah to go back to Iran. I am glad that Prince Reza has decided not to listen to the fool and push for his quest for Democratic change from outsider the country.
I continue to await the day whereby Mousavi will be arrested. The people are aroused and there is no turning back. It is only a matter of time. The question is how much time? I wonder.
