International Woman's Day
Today is International Woman's Day. I salute all the women in the world who work to make a difference for their familes and their communities every day. I can't help but wonder about how far we've come as a World in insuring that there is true equality. Yet, somehow we have much more to do.
As I write this, there are women in the world who are still in bondage. There are women who continue to be denied basic rights. There are women who continue to suffer due to their on-going economic plight. The horrific stories of the plight of the women of Zimbabwe, the Republic of the Congo and other countries around the World is well known.
On this day, I also remember all those women who have given their life for trying to do what was right. I also salute all those Women Pioneers who were at the forefront of opening doors for others. One such iconic figure Iran's First Female Minister, Mrs. Farrokhroo Parsa. She was a trailblazer in many respects and went on to serve as Education Minister before being executed after the 1979 Revolution. Another of the many iconic figures is the Burmese Opposition Leader Aung San Suu Kyi that continues to remain under house arrest. All of us must not forget and continue the struggle to insure equality and justice for all. It is the only just and humane thing to do.
