India Rising (First in a Series)
India's rise to be among the top 20 countries in the world has been nothing less than extra-ordinary. The people of India are among the most industrious, hard working and competitive in the world. The advances India has enjoyed has been in spite of an inefficient and corrupt government that has had processes and procedures which have been carried over since the days of the British. But, that's about to change though.
The elections that brought Congress back to power has given Congress a free hand to push through the reforms necessary to shake up India. One of the assertive moves India has made is the launch of the Nuclear Power Submarine INS Chakra. It is due to be launched by the Prime Minister. Many Indian companies are leading players in the world. One example is TATA, which paid 2 Billion Dollars for Ford's Premium Marquees about a year ago. Companies like Wipro and Infosys are part of the DNA of the outsourcing movement around the world. The Ambani Brothers are dominant players in the industries they are players in. It is sad to see how the lust for money and power is hampering their work--but that's another story for another day.
As the march continues on, there is the Marxist insurgency that seems to turn into a major challenge for the Government. Over half the Country's 604 Districts are facing a Maoist insurgency. This is the biggest the country faces and a challenge to a Congress Government that has promised prosperity for all. Time will tell.
