Happy Birthday India!!!
India has celebrated independence day. I have continued to watch with awe as India has continued to take its' rightful place as one of the key players in the World. It is part of the BRIC pack (Brazil, Russia & China) that has increasingly become an important and vital player in World Affairs. I marveled at the power when Copehnagen happened when Barack Obama was effectively sidelined with side meetings.
As I reviewed the Prime Minister's speech, I was pleased to see that he remembered the problem with the Naxalites. Despite India's rise, what India has to contend with is the fact that 15 of India's 31 States continue to be in rebellion. Furthermore, there is of course the lingering problem of Kashmir. Apparently there was so much anxiety over indepedence day celebrations that New Delhi was in virtual lockdown for the day.
I salute India. I also worry about India because of the continued challenges it faces.
