Gaddafi Speaks Again....
Mummar Gaddafi, Libya's Leader, has spoke again. Officially, he has no title in Libya. Yet, he holds paramount power in Libya and his word is supreme. It is what he has done in Africa that continues to be fascinating, yet at times idiotic.
I have read his edicts on the Israeli-Palestine conflct. His Green Book is interesting reading if you want to fall asleep of boredom. I was shocked when he gave up his nuclear ambitions. I do regard his as a eccentric and frankly, a clown. With all the money he has had at his disposal, he could have created an oasis in Libya. Yet, I read of trash not being picked up and corruption as rampant as ever. Yet, Gadaffi's family and sons seem to be living the life of luxury. This life of luxury came to pass when Switerzland and Libya got into it over one of Gaddafi's Boys being arrested for abusing his wife while in Switzerland.
His latest edict was on Nigeria. He called for Nigeria to be split along ethnic lines. There is a little problem with that. There are religious conflicts and of course, ethnic conflicts. There is the Christian North and Muslim South. Within each of those major communities, there happens to be some 250 different tribes. I welcome Nigeria recalling its Ambassador from Tripoli. For someone who fashioned himself the President of Africa, it seems to me that he ought to know better. But, he is Gaddafi and he does things his way. It is tough to argue and reason with someone who is a legend in his own brain.
I have seen talks of his son, Saif El-Islam, taking over. He seems to understand that there needs to be change. Gaddafi led a coup against King Idris precisely to change things. Yet, he has become a King himself. It seems to me that someone should remind him of what happened 40 years ago.
