What Role Should Michelle Obama Play in the White House Should She Be the First Lady?
I think about this question quite often. The role of many first ladies in our country’s past and present with Laura Bush has been to stand by her man. Their duties have included choosing the White House menu, hosting the Christmas tree lighting ceremony and facilitating the White House lawn Easter Egg Hunt. Hardly tasks suitable for someone who is a 1985 cum laude graduate of Princeton University, a 1988 graduate of Harvard Law School, a former associate dean at the University of Chicago, and most recently a vice president at the University of Chicago Hospitals. Michelle Obama sits on six boards, including the prestigious Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools, and Tree House Foods. Michelle Obama has quite an impressive resume. In addition, she is the mother of two beautiful daughters, Malia and Natasha.
Examining her credentials, what type of role would be sufficient for her when Barack Obama is President of the United States? My thoughts are she should have the same role as Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton served as head of the Taskforce on national healthcare reform. As President of a hospital, she has a unique inside perspective of the healthcare system.
Michelle Obama is an excellent role model for young women of all races, colors, or creeds. Other blogs and websites alike may disagree with me, mainly because of the comment she made regarding being “really proud” of her country. Anyone can agree that her story is uniquely American. Growing up in Southside Chicago with a father a city worker and mom a secretary, she did not grow up with a silver spoon I her mouth like Cindy McCain. She did not begin her life already having connections; she has had to make them. I do not know what position Michelle Obama will take in the White House, however I am certain she will excel just as she has in all other aspects of her life. What do you think?
