California: Why?
The Governor of California came out with the dire predictions. He also threatened to shut the entire state down if the legislature did not do his bidding. His bravado has been too little, too late.
In Outsider Views, I have written about the crisis in California. The best and most insightful analysis I have seen is what Ari Lewis just did for Al Jazeera:
Right now, the Governor wants to apply Shock Therapy by just cutting Government Spending. He wants to destroy the last vestiges of the safety net. What have the people done to be blessed with such incompetent and irresponsible so-called leaders? Why did it have to come to this? When will responsible and courageous leaders truly emerge to lead California away from the abyss?
