Barack Obama Marches On...
President Obama has been quite busy. It has been quite a ride over the past four months. I have been quite amazed as to how he has held up despite all that he has had to put up with from the right, left and center. He was elected to change things. He is marching ahead.
I do marvel at how he has worked to keep his word. He said he would try to save the Auto Industry. I think the actions are on the right track. He has worked to turn around the economy. The verdict is still out. He said he would work to change the focus on Afghanistan. He has done that. I have profound concerns about it and I have written on it in Outsiderviews. I also am quite amazed as to the time the President takes to read letters and also was quite glad that he prevailed to keep his Blackberry to say grounded.
As I have seen the Presidents of my lifetime live through what they have lived through, I marvel at their stamina. I especially remember vividly an interview Bill Clinton did. He told the story of being in the White House Elevator during the early years. The elevator stops at the wrong floor. Bill Clinton, being the ever-friendly guy that he was, starts greeting everyone. Once the elevator door closes, he notices the White House Porter nervous and starts apologizing to the President for dealing with "those people". Bill Clinton laughs and tells the porter, "....don't worry, I used to be one of them...". We have to remember that Presidents are "normal too". We have to give them that space so that they can have fun. I was glad that the President was able to keep his word to the First Lady and went out to Broadway to enjoy a show. I saw some comments about Republicans objecting to it. I welcome it. We don't want a President who is in an ivory tower and forgets what is going on in the real world. We would be doing him and ourselves a profound disservice.
