Ask A Black Chick: What It's Really Like to Be Black in America?
Dare I open this can of worms? I have read blogs, posts, and websites speculating how black Americans think and why black Americans do what they do. CNN will air a two-part documentary later this month on being Black in America. Let me make something abundantly clear. No one person speaks for a group of people. Al Sharpton no more speaks for me than Pat Robertson speaks for white Americans. However, as a black woman who grew up amongst diversity, I believe that I have a unique perspective as to how all people are the same as well as our cultural differences. Please do not take this as an opportunity to post any racist or derogatory views. Instead, look at this as an opportunity to learn more about a race of with whom you share the world. If you come to me with honest and sincere questions, I will come to you with honest and sincere answers. The only way that we can move forward as a nation in the United States is to have a dialogue. Discuss the myths and folklore in what some may consider stereotypical black behavior. We may have a black President in January. There is no better time than the present to discuss our fears openly.
