As China Changes
China continues to grow and change. I have been quite impressed with the series "faces of china" that has been recently featured on Al Jazeera.
As I saw the plight of the young, I caught another one that featured the plight of the old. I was quite surprised to note that almost 10 percent of the population (some 160 Million) were Senior Citizens that were increasingly forced to be on their own because the resources were not there anymore. For a State that still touts itself as a workers paradise, that was a shocker.
China's position will be forever enhanced. But, it has to figure out how to insure that somehow a reasonably decent social safety net is maintained. Will it be able to do so?
