A Tale of Two Leaders anda a Need for Courage
I have watched with horror as rains have continued to wreck havoc on Pakistan. Punjab, Pakistan's heartland, is under water. Millions are on the move. People are starving and are yet to receive aid:
As the people suffered, Pakistan's useless President was making the rounds of Western Capitals in his Thousand-Dollar suit in smiles when he visited Nicholas Sarkozy and David Cameron. Some have deemed the floods as Zardari's Katrina. I could not agree more. I was even seeing reports about the Prime Minister being MIA for a while and not being seen in public.
Russia, on the other hand, has also been faced with some 520 fires:
Medvedev, the Russian President, cut short his vacation and went back to the Capital, Moscow, to chair a meeting of the National Security Council. He also dismissed a number of officers and noted to the country that he would wipe the slate clean if necessary to insure that the work is done. This is what leadership should be. Maybe Zardari and the entire Pakistani leadership should learn from this man.
What Pakistan and Russia show is another major problem: Global Warming. Our planet is in trouble. The window to tun around the plight of our planet is rapidly closing. If 520 fires and weeks of continous rains are not an indication of the calamity being faced, I don't know what is.
